Trump Triumphant? Let's Hope Not

In most recent news, and to no one’s surprise, Donald Trump has, yet again, pulled a fast one on the people of America. On Saturday, at a campaign rally in Iowa, Trump said, "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose voters.” Trump’s remarks are in response to conservative commentator and television personality Glenn Beck’s insults about him, stating, "If Donald Trump wins, it's going to be a snowball to hell." Beck heavily supports and advocates for Trump’s rival, Ted Cruz. When Cruz heard Trump’s comments, he stated, "I will let Donald speak for himself. I can say I have no intention of shooting anybody in this campaign." Cruz then told the public how he wanted to focus on fixing issues rather than dealing with Trump’s critical comments.
Donald Trump is an interesting man. Personally, I think the man’s a character. My aunt and I watched his television show “The Apprentice”, as I was growing up, and I always enjoyed his direct, straightforward, and brutally honest personality. All of my life, Donald Trump was a fascinating wild card who was successful and business savvy.
Trump’s made his way back into the public’s eye, this time through politics with his presidential campaign. He’s currently the front-runner in the Republican polls, and he’s continually in media and news headlines. However, though he still possesses the character traits of which I remember him as, I am in no way in support of this man becoming America’s 45th president.
First, let me state that I am often mostly conservative with economic issues and liberal with social issues. I find Trump’s standing in the polls to be shocking, and it makes me wonder if he’s gained this advantage by appealing to those who do not normally pay close attention to politics. Trump knows how to publicly speak on a small enough level that all people can understand; he makes intelligent sounding worldly issues appear less dense, and his arrogance aids his wittiness. When he speaks about certain issues, he is often thoughtless and ignorant, and that is why it is shocking that Trump has still found so much success in this year’s presidential campaign.
I now find it incredible that some of the most notable Republican figures and speakers do not support Donald Trump. His remarks from the campaign rally are insensitive and unmindful. Gun control is one of the most prevalent issues in America right now and to joke about shooting people is tactless. At the event, Trump called Beck a “loser”, further solidifying his careless behavior as to why he would make a horrible, horrible president.
